Trent Reznor, David Bryne Talking Major Labels
Times is tough these days. Posting has become slow as my time is being chewed up by everyone on the planet other than myself. But enough about me. All of the musicians I have ever played with have at one point or another thought they were going to be a “Rockstar”. Most of my friends grew up out of that. I have a couple of buddies that have been or are working musicians and know that in general there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Even if you are fortunate enough to get into an arena odds are you’re going to be playing for a very small amount of money. The overhead is just too high.
Think about it for a minute. If you’re a working band you have to sell your disc, merch, and play shows to make money. Unfortunately all of those activities take money. Costs to record unless you do it yourself but even if you do have that, its going to have to be pressed. So you have that expense, up front merch expense, transport to gigs, maybe you play enough you need to buy a vehicle. But if your band starts to blow up all those expenses get worse. For example now most venues take a cut of the merch profits. Any enough rambling.
Here is a clip from Trent Reznor and David Bryne from Talking Heads that was just shot buy a dude in the audience. This segment is about why Trent went back to major labels and how its working for him. Pretty cool bit. If I find more of this I will surely post!
